Managed IT Services Case Study

Rhino Foods

  • Rhino manufactures and sells ice cream ingredients and specialty frozen desserts
  • AIB Superior rated facility encompasses more than 49,000 sq ft of production, warehouse, lab and office space
  • Over 100 employees
  • Voted one of the best small companies
to work for by Inc. Magazine

The Goal

Rhino wished to re-align their IT plan with the strategic plan of the business.

The Challenge

The market for Rhino Foods’ products shifted dramatically in 2009 forcing reconsideration of capital and operating budgets. At the same time, increased pressure to improve productivity was also pressing the need for new applications and more infrastructure. The challenge was to find a strategic IT partner who could help fine-tune the cost/benefit equation and reallocate the available funds to get better value for
money spent.

The Solution

SymQuest® studied the business requirements with Rhino executives in order to reprioritize and rethink IT funding. Once Rhino launched an initiative to reinvent the way it would invest IT funds, the management team could focus on solving other
business challenges.

The final solution included several servers, a new backup system and the introduction
of managed network services.

The Business Outcome

Overall, Rhino Foods now spends less money on IT. Their virtualized server environment properly protects corporate data and provides for the easy addition of new business applications as needs arise. The new configuration reduced tech support requirements by retiring aging PCs and deploying lowcost/low-maintenance desktop devices. SymQuest also reduced the need for a full-time network administrator by assuming responsibility for the monitoring and maintenance of the new environment.

“I am able to manage user network support issues with SymQuest’s team of network engineers and the assistance of a part-time database specialist. The net result: no significant increases in monthly operating expenses or changes to my part-time status; I feel comfortable that my users are well supported when I’m not in the office.”– Jayne Magnant, Director of IT
